But here's where it gets controversial... the FA Cup defeat to Brighton was a major blow, marking the earliest exit from both domestic trophies since the 1981-82 season. This means fewer games, just 40 in total, the lowest in 111 years.
Last season, Manchester United earned £160.3 million from match-day income across 30 games, boosted by their run to the Europa League final, where they lost to Tottenham Hotspur. Now, under Carrick, the club will host ten fewer games at Old Trafford this season, with each game valued at approximately £5.3 million.
The FA Cup exit has created gaps in the schedule, with 13 days free in February and a 10-day break in March before the international break.
The club has reportedly discussed a visit to Saudi Arabia with the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority. If the trip happens, they could face Ronaldo's Al-Nassr in The Riyadh Season Cup. Carrick and Ronaldo shared the field during the 2000s, and Carrick managed Ronaldo during his first stint as caretaker manager in 2021.
The Riyadh Season usually takes place from October to March, and the cup could be a three-way tournament against Ronaldo's team and Al-Hilal.
After the defeat to Spurs in the Europa League Final last May, United missed out on £100 million in prize money, leading to a significant drop in match-day revenue. The club has raised ticket prices and introduced new executive seating to combat the shortfall. The pre-season tour of Asia earned around £7.8 million, with a subsequent trip to the US almost matching that figure.
