The incident began when Katie Miller, married to the US President's deputy chief of staff, posted a doctored image of Greenland in American flag colors on her X account, accompanied by the word "SOON." This seemingly innocuous post has sparked a diplomatic reminder from Denmark's ambassador to the US, Jesper Moeller Soerensen.
"A friendly reminder: we are allies, and allies respect each other's territorial integrity," Soerensen wrote in response. "Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and we take our joint security seriously."
But here's where it gets controversial: Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of annexing Greenland, citing its strategic location and mineral resources. His government's recent appointment of a special envoy to Greenland has further fueled tensions, prompting anger in Denmark, a traditional ally.
Soerensen's response to Miller's post, which he reposted with a clear message, underscores the seriousness of the situation. "US security is also Greenland's and Denmark's security. We are committed to our defense spending and ensuring Arctic security," he emphasized.
