Paul began his NBA journey in 2005 as the top pick in a notable draft class that also included Deron Williams, Channing Frye, Danny Granger, and Nate Robinson. He started with the New Orleans Hornets and later suited up for teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers, the Houston Rockets, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Phoenix Suns for three seasons.
Coincidentally, Taurasi was drafted by Phoenix the year before Paul entered the league. She had a standout rookie season, averaging 17.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 steals. Phoenix finished 17-17 that year, marking the franchise’s first .500-or-better record since 2000, and they went on to face the Los Angeles Sparks in the playoffs with a 20-14 finish.
Taurasi’s continued impact helped elevate the Mercury and the WNBA as a whole, and now, in retirement, she’s expanding her footprint beyond the hardwood.
As for Paul, he recently announced his retirement via social media after a brief stint with the Toronto Raptors, who waived him following a trade, effectively ending his professional playing career.
