In a thrilling showdown, the New Orleans Pelicans managed to edge out the Brooklyn Nets with a close score of 116-113, thanks in large part to Trey Murphy III's impressive performance, where he racked up an astonishing 34 points. But that's not all—Saddiq Bey also played a pivotal role by sinking a crucial three-pointer to tie the game, making an electrifying dunk after snagging an offensive rebound, and sealing his contribution with two successful free throws in the tense final moments of the match.
Zion Williamson added to the Pelicans' efforts with a solid 25 points, marking only their second victory in the last 13 games. Yves Missi was a key contributor as well, tallying 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, with nine of those coming from offensive plays, which helped the Pelicans accumulate a remarkable 33 points from second-chance opportunities.
On the other side, the Nets were led by Egor Demin, who scored 17 points and launched five successful three-pointers, with his final shot giving Brooklyn a brief lead of 110-107 as the clock ticked down to just 1:28. However, Bey responded with his own three-pointer just before the shot clock expired, showcasing his clutch performance. Following that, Bey’s athleticism shone through when he executed a dunk after collecting a long rebound from Murphy's missed three-point attempt, followed by hitting two crucial free throws with only five seconds left on the clock after being intentionally fouled.
Bey finished the night with a total of 12 points. For the Nets, Michael Porter Jr. contributed 20 points and was involved in a frantic scramble for a loose ball in the dying seconds. He attempted a desperate shot just as the buzzer sounded, but it failed to hit its mark.
Brooklyn also saw contributions from Drake Powell, who scored 16 points, while Day'Ron Sharpe added 15 points and nine rebounds. Unfortunately for the Nets, this loss marked their eighth defeat in nine games.
Demin started strong, hitting four of his first five three-point attempts, allowing the Nets to build an early 12-point lead. However, the Pelicans didn't back down and managed to narrow the gap to just one point at 55-54 after Williamson’s layup capped off the first half. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 87.
Despite entering the final period with the league's lowest opponent shooting percentage of 50.5%, the Pelicans faced a challenge as the Nets opened the quarter with seven unanswered points, prompting coach James Borrego to call a timeout. New Orleans quickly regrouped, responding with a powerful 15-4 run, fueled by Murphy's nine points during this stretch, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.
Looking ahead, the Nets will host the Chicago Bulls on Friday, while the Pelicans will travel to take on the Indiana Pacers on the same day.
