Quentin Tarantino's Two-Decade Dream Comes True: 'Kill Bill' Chapter 'Yuki's Revenge' Comes to Life in Fortnite
Director Quentin Tarantino's long-held vision for a 'Kill Bill' chapter, known as 'Yuki's Revenge,' is finally materializing. The eight-minute animated short will be released on Fortnite and later screened in theaters as part of an exclusive limited theatrical run of 'Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.'
Starring Uma Thurman as The Bride, the short was created using Epic Games' Unreal Engine and motion capture technology. Tarantino and Thurman collaborated to bring the character to life in the gaming platform, with Tarantino explaining at a special launch event how Fortnite and Epic Games were the perfect fit for this project.
Tarantino revealed that the chapter existed in the original first draft of 'Kill Bill,' but was cut due to pacing concerns. He had originally envisioned a scene where Gogo (Chiaki Kuriyama) had a twin sister and was unwell, leading her to leave early from the House of Blue Leaves. However, the scene was deemed too intense and violent for the film.
Thurman, who brought The Bride to life in the short, shared her experience with motion capture technology. She described it as a novel experience, despite the challenges of wearing the camera on her head. Thurman expressed her excitement about the new way of presenting 'Kill Bill' and the story of Yuki's revenge, stating that it was a unique and meaningful project.
'The Whole Bloody Affair,' a four-hour cut of 'Kill Bill Vol. 1' and 'Kill Bill Vol. 2,' will be released in theaters on December 5th. It stars Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, and David Carradine as Bill. Tarantino aims to please both 'Kill Bill' fans and Fortnite enthusiasts with this collaboration, ensuring a satisfying experience for all.
