Saskatchewan Huskies QB Anton Amundrud's Cancer Diagnosis: Team's Support and His Remarkable Journey (2025)

Heartbreak hits the gridiron as Saskatchewan Huskies quarterback Anton Amundrud faces a challenging diagnosis. The team announced on Wednesday that Amundrud has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system. His focus immediately shifts to his health, with the full support of his team and family.

The university shared that Amundrud and his family are requesting privacy as he begins treatment. This is completely understandable during such a difficult time.

"It's been a tough couple of days here around Huskie Football with the news about Anton," said head coach Scott Flory in a statement. "He is a remarkable young man, on and off the field, and we know he will fight this disease with everything he’s got. We know we have an important game to play Saturday, but our players are processing the news as we focus on Anton’s well-being."

"We also know Anton wants nothing more than to be fighting with us on the field. We understand that and we will be ready, focused, energized, and prepared to play Huskie football. Anton has the full love and support of our entire football family.”

And this is where his athletic achievements truly shine. Before his diagnosis, the fourth-year quarterback had an impressive season. He started in the first five regular-season games, throwing for an impressive 1,604 yards, 14 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Despite missing the last three games of the regular season, his performance earned him a Canada West all-star recognition.

Standing at six-foot-three and weighing 210 pounds, Amundrud hails from Lloydminster, Alta. He has etched his name in the program's history, ranking third in career completions with 558, fifth in touchdown passes with 42, and sixth in passing yards, totaling 6,945.

For those wishing to send messages of support, the team has provided an email address: huskie.football@usask.ca.

It's a testament to the strength of the human spirit to see such resilience in the face of adversity. What are your thoughts on how the team and community are rallying around Anton? Share your support and well wishes in the comments below.
